Colon & Rectal Surgeons of Greater Hartford

Bernard J. Kaplan, M.D. opened the practice in 1955. The practice has grown continuously over nearly fifty years. The group presently consists of five board certified colon and rectal surgeons serving three offices and seven hospitals.

Our commitment to continued education, new techniques and improved patient outcomes has lead to the establishment of a colon and rectal surgery teaching residency program in our practice. This program is one of only 36 in the United States and the only such program in Connecticut. In the program fully trained general surgeons receive advanced surgical education making them eligible to be board certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Leadership in advanced surgical education and research ensures that our patients benefit from cutting edge technologies and clinical innovation.
